The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:15 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Bldg., the Chairman, Roger Simmons, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hedy Fry, Sharon Hayes, Grant Hill, Ovid L. Jackson, Bernard Patry, Andy Scott, Roger Simmons.

Acting Member present: Rex Crawford for Paul Szabo.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore and Nancy Miller-Chénier, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Institute for Child Health: Graham Chance, Chair; Denise Avard, Executive Director; From the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research: Professor Dan Keating, Director, Human Development Program.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of a study on Preventative Strategies for Healthy Children. (See Minutes of Proceedings, dated Thursday, November 2, 1995, Issue No. 33).

Denise Avard and Graham Chance made an opening statement and answered questions.

Dan Keating made an opening statement and answered questions.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference received from the House, dated November 8, 1995, and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 7, 1995, which stated that upon presentation of the report of the Sub-Committee on C-95, it be deemed adopted, the Chairman declared the Report of the Sub-Committee duly adopted with amendment, and requested that Andy Scott present it to the House as the Committee's Seventh Report.

It was agreed,--That the First Report of the Sub-Committee on HIV/AIDS reviewing the National AIDS Strategy be adopted as the Committee's Eighth Report to the House and that on behalf of the Chair, the Chair of the Sub-Committee on HIV/AIDS be instructed to present it to the House when it is printed.

It was agreed,--That the Committee authorize the printing of a brief dissenting opinion from the Reform Party of Canada, as appended to the First Report of the Sub-Committee on HIV/AIDS.

It was agreed,--That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the government table a comprehensive response to the Report within one hundred and fifty (150) days.

It was agreed,--That the researchers and clerk be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Draft Report.

It was agreed,--That the Chair of the Sub-Committee on HIV/AIDS be authorized to issue a press release and /or hold a press conference following the presentation of the Report to the House of Commons.

It was agreed,--That in addition to the 350 copies printed by the House, the Committee print 650 additional copies of the Report.

At 10:55 o'clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
