The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 9:03 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chairman, Andy Mitchell, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Marlene Cowling, Bernard Deshaies, David Iftody, Julian Reed, Bob Ringma, Benoît Serré, Roseanne Skoke and Peter Thalheimer.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officers.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study on natural resources and rural development (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence dated Tuesday, May 7, 1996, Issue No. 1).

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of a draft report on Rural Economic Development.

At 10:06 o'clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.


THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1996
(Meeting No. 51)

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 11:04 o'clock a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chairman, Andy Mitchell, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Dave Chatters, Marlene Cowling, Julian Reed, Peter Thalheimer and Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the House of Commons: Dianne Brushett, M.P.; John Bryden, M.P.; Paul Crête, M.P.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study on natural resources and rural development (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence dated Tuesday, May 7, 1996, Issue No. 1).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:00 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.


WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1997
(Meeting No. 52)

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in camera at 3:34 o'clock p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chairman, Andy Mitchell, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, René Canuel, Marlene Cowling, Bernard Deshaies, Julian Reed, Peter Thalheimer and Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officers.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), a study on natural resources and rural development (See Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence dated Tuesday, May 7, 1996, Issue No. 1).

The Committee proceeded to consider a draft report entitled "Think Rural!".

It was agreed, - That the Draft Report, as amended, be concurred in.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, - That the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this report.

It was agreed, - That the Committee print 1,000 copies of the report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair table the report as the Third Report to the House.

At 3:52 o'clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
