M-616 His Holiness the Dalai Lama

That the House: (a) note that July 6, 2015 will mark the 80th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; (b) recall the Dalai Lama's status as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and as one of only five honorary Canadian citizens; (c) recognize the Dalai Lama's religious and personal leadership of the Tibetan people and Tibetan Buddhists worldwide; and (d) acknowledge the Dalai Lama's championship of human rights and respect for all living creatures, his desire for Tibetans to live freely and peacefully in an autonomous Tibet within the People's Republic of China, and his advocacy of a “Middle Way” approach to conflict resolution based on non-violence, compromise, and dialogue.
