The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Ed Fast, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Joe Comartin, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Ed Fast, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Marc Lemay, Réal Ménard, Rob Moore, Brian Murphy, Rick Norlock, Daniel Petit, Brent Rathgeber and Brian Storseth.

 

Associate Members present: Megan Leslie.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Isabelle Duford, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers: Phil Downes, Representative. Department of Justice: Hal Pruden, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section. Association of Canadian Distillers: Jan Westcott, President and Chief Executive Officer. Department of Justice: Greg Yost, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 9, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the comprehensive review of matters related to Impaired Driving.
 

On motion of Brian Murphy, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 10, 000, for the study on the comprehensive review of matters related to Impaired Driving in the amount of be adopted.

 

Greg Yost made a statement and, with Hal Pruden, answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Phil Downes and Jan Westcott made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
