Confederation Hall

If the Parliament Building is a symphony of neo-Gothic architecture, then Confederation Hall, situated just inside the main entrance, may be its crescendo.

Round Space

The round space has been called the symbolic heart of Parliament. Its eight arched bays, each richly carved with heraldic decoration and other symbols of Canada, its provinces and territories, as well as its flora and fauna, lead to the critical workspaces of the building: the House of Commons Chamber is located to the west, and the Senate Chamber to the east. The space is also connected via the Hall of Honour to the Library of Parliament, all that remains of the original building.

Central Column

From the marble floor, a central column of Tyndall limestone supports a fan vault that flares outward to join with the vaulted arches all around in immense, yet exquisite, harmony. Here, that Gothic vertical thrust most powerfully prompts exaltation.
