Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the committee resumed its study of gender-based violence and femicides against women, girls and gender-diverse people.

Julie S. Lalonde, Karine Gagnon, Jackie Huet, Lenore Lukasik-Foss and Stuart Betts made statements and answered questions.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of hate motivated violence targeting the 2SLGBTQI+ community, members submit their witness list to the clerk of the committee no later than Thursday, November 7, 2024.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of hate motivated violence targeting the 2SLGBTQI+ community, the clerk and analysts of the committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a news release for publication on the committee’s website, at the start of the study, and upon presentation of the report to the House.

It was agreed, — That in the context of the study of hate motivated violence targeting the 2SLGBTQI+ community, the deadline for the submission of written briefs be no later than 4:00 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, December 2, 2024, and that briefs not exceed two pages (approximately 1,000 words).

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of hate motivated violence targeting the 2SLGBTQI+community, the committee offer mental health supports to the witnesses, and that the clerk be authorized to make the necessary arrangements, if requested.

At 6:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
