On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, the subcommittee adopted the following motion:
That the subcommittee conduct a study of the arrest and detention by the Hong Kong authorities of the pro-democracy activist and publisher of the Apple Daily newspaper, Jimmy Lai; that the study consist of at least two meetings, including consideration of the broader context of media freedom in Hong Kong; and that members submit their lists of requested witnesses to the clerk no later than Friday, February 2, 2024.
