Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. MacLaren (Minister for International Trade), seconded by Mrs. Finestone (Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women)), Bill C-57, An Act to implement the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation
(Pursuant to Standing Order 79(2))

    His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled ``An Act to implement the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization''.

Motions

By unanimous consent, Mr. Milliken (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. O'Brien (London -- Middlesex), moved, -- That the 42nd Report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented earlier today, be concurred in.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, a petition certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions was presented as follows:

-- by Mr. Crawford (Kent), concerning renewable alternative energy sources (No. 351-1075).

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Williams (St. Albert), seconded by Mr. Penson (Peace River), moved, -- That this House requests the government to table a clear detailed plan to show how and when it intends to balance the Budget including a clear statement of its vision of the role of the government in the economy in order for the people of Canada to debate the plan and vision.

Debate arose thereon.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. de Savoye (Portneuf), seconded by Mr. Péloquin (Brome -- Missisquoi), -- That Bill C-237, An Act to amend the Bankrupty Act (priority of claims), be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Government Operations.

The debate continued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93, the time provided for consideration of Private Members' Business expired and the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

MESSAGES FROM THE SENATE

A Message was received from the Senate as follows:

      ORDERED: That a Message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-25, An Act to amend the Canada Petroleum Resources Act, without amendment.

PROCEEDINGS ON ADJOURNMENT MOTION

At 7:02 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 38(1), the question ``That this House do now adjourn'' was deemed to have been proposed.

After debate, the question was deemed to have been adopted.
