Presenting Reports from Committees

Mr. McGuire (Egmont), from the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food, presented the 3rd Report of the Committee (Capturing the Advantage: Agricultural Biotechnology in the New Millennium). -- Sessional Paper No. 8510-361-84.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government was requested by the Committee to table a comprehensive response.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meetings Nos. 37 to 40 and 43), which includes this Report, was tabled.

Motions

Pursuant to Standing Order 56.1(1), Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Anderson (Minister of Fisheries and Oceans), moved, -- That the Order of the House of June 8, 1998, respecting motions pursuant to Standing Orders 57 and 78(3), be rescinded.

The question was put on the motion and, more than 25 Members having risen to object, pursuant to Standing Order 56.1(3), the motion was deemed withdrawn.

"12.1 No later than three years after the coming into force of all the provisions of this Act, the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development shall convene a conference composed of the signatories of the Agreement in order to determine whether this Act should be converted into a treaty within the meaning of section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982."
