Introduction of Government Bills
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mrs. Stewart (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), seconded by Mr. Collenette (Minister of Transport), Bill C-8, An Act respecting an accord between the Governments of Canada and the Yukon Territory relating to the administration and control of and legislative jurisdiction in respect of oil and gas, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Collenette (Minister of Transport), seconded by Mrs. Stewart (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), Bill C-9, An Act for making the system of Canadian ports competitive, efficient and commercially oriented, providing for the establishing of port authorities and the divesting of certain harbours and ports, for the commercialization of the St. Lawrence Seaway and ferry services and other matters related to maritime trade and transport and amending the Pilotage Act and amending and repealing other Acts as a consequence, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House
of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the
circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in
a measure entitled "An Act for making the system of Canadian
ports competitive, efficient and commercially oriented,
providing for the establishing of port authorities and the
divesting of certain harbours and ports, for the
commercialization of the St. Lawrence Seaway and ferry
services and other matters related to maritime trade and
transport and amending the Pilotage Act and amending and
repealing other Acts as a consequence".

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. White (North Vancouver), seconded by Mr. Casson (Lethbridge), Bill C-228, An Act to promote the use of plain language in federal statutes and regulations, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. White (North Vancouver), seconded by Mr. Casson (Lethbridge), Bill C-229, An Act to provide for the holding of citizen-initiated referenda on specific questions, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
