Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Peterson (Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions)) for Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Ms. Caplan (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), Bill C-43, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, the Income Tax Application Rules and certain Acts related to the Income Tax Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Ms. Robillard (President of the Treasury Board), -- That Bill C-38, An Act to establish the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and to amend certain Acts in relation to financial institutions, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The debate continued.

MOTIONS

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That at the conclusion of the debate on Motion M-160 during Private Members' Hour today, all questions necessary to dispose of the said motion be deemed put and a recorded division deemed requested and deferred until Tuesday, September 26, 2000, at the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities of Bill C-211, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (travel expenses for a motor vehicle used by a forestry worker).

Mr. Crête (Kamouraska -- Rivière-du-Loup -- Témiscouata -- Les Basques), seconded by Mr. Bernier (Bonaventure -- Gaspé -- Îles-de- la-Madeleine -- Pabok), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.

Pursuant to Standing Order 30(7), the House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Kenney (Calgary Southeast), seconded by Mr. Martin (Esquimalt -- Juan de Fuca), -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should take all necessary steps to release the 1911 census records once they have been deposited in the National Archives in 2003. (Private Members' Business M-160)

Mr. Harb (Ottawa Centre), seconded by Mr. Clouthier (Renfrew -- Nipissing -- Pembroke), moved the following amendment, -- That the motion be amended by replacing the word ``take'' with the following:

``consider taking''.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Kenney (Calgary Southeast), seconded by Mr. Martin (Esquimalt -- Juan de Fuca), -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should take all necessary steps to release the 1911 census records once they have been deposited in the National Archives in 2003;

And of the amendment of Mr. Harb (Ottawa Centre), seconded by Mr. Clouthier (Renfrew -- Nipissing -- Pembroke).

The debate continued.
