Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. McLellan (Minister of Justice), seconded by Ms. Robillard (President of the Treasury Board), Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals, disarming a peace officer and other amendments) and the Firearms Act (technical amendments), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. McLellan (Minister of Justice), seconded by Ms. Robillard (President of the Treasury Board), Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (impaired driving causing death and other matters), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
Introduction of Private Members' Bills

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Manley (Minister of Industry), seconded by Mr. Chan (Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific)), -- That Bill C-5, An Act to establish the Canadian Tourism Commission, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Industry.
The debate continued.
MOTIONS
By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be authorized to travel to Western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta) from December 5 to 11, 1999, in relation to its study of the effectiveness of long-term safety nets and other national initiatives to provide the stability and environment necessary for stable growth in the agricultural industry, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.
