Government Orders

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Dhaliwal (Minister of Natural Resources) , seconded by Mr. Boudria (Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) , — That Bill C-4, An Act to amend the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, be now read a third time and do pass.

Private Members' Business

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development of Bill C-280, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (selling wildlife).

Ms. Meredith (South Surrey—White Rock—Langley) , seconded by Miss Grey (Edmonton North) , moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93, the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

Messages from the Senate

A message regarding Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals and firearms) and the Firearms Act, was received from the Senate as follows:

    — ORDERED: That the Clerk do carry this Bill back to the House of Commons and acquaint that House that the Senate has divided the Bill into two Bills, Bill C-10A, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearms) and the Firearms Act, and Bill C-10B, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals), both of which are attached to this Message as Appendices “A” and “B” respectively; and

    That the Clerk further acquaint that House that: (a) the Senate desires the concurrence of the House of Commons in the division of Bill C-10; (b) the Senate has passed Bill C-10A without amendment; and (c) the Senate is further considering Bill C-10B. — Sessional Paper No. 8568-372-2.
