The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Colin Carrie, Hon. Brenda Chamberlain, Nicole Demers, Ruby Dhalla, James Lunney and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

Acting Members present: Bernard Bigras for Réal Ménard.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Homeopathic Pharmaceutical Association: Yvan Bourgault, President. Canadian Natural Products Association: André Gagnon, President; Pierre Morin, Consultant. Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association: Carl Carter, Vice-President, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs; Kathleen Ljubisic, Manager, Regulatory Affairs. NDMAC: David Skinner, President. Direct Sellers Association of Canada: Ross Creber, President; Wendy Hulton, Legal Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 9, 2005, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-420, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act.
 

Yvan Bourgault, Pierre Morin, Carl Carter, David Skinner and Ross Creber made statements and, with André Gagnon and Wendy Hulton, answered questions.

 

On motion of Ruby Dhalla, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 39,175.00, for the study of Bill C-420, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act, be adopted.

 

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
