Orders of the Day |
Government Orders |
Business of Supply |
April 4, 2006 — The President of the Treasury Board — Consideration of the Business of Supply. |
Supply period ending June 23, 2007 — maximum of 8 allotted days, pursuant to Standing Order 81(10)(a). |
Opposition Motion — Deferred recorded division |
April 26, 2007 — Deferred recorded division on the motion of Mr. Layton (Toronto—Danforth), seconded by Ms. Black (New Westminster—Coquitlam), — Whereas, |
(1) all Members of this House, whatever their disagreements about the mission in Afghanistan, support the courageous men and women of the Canadian Forces; |
(2) the government has admitted that the situation in Afghanistan can not be won militarily; |
(3) the current counter-insurgency mission is not the right mission for Canada; |
(4) the government has neither defined what ‘victory’ would be, nor developed an exit strategy from this counter-insurgency mission; |
therefore this House condemns this government and calls for it to immediately notify NATO of our intention to begin withdrawing Canadian Forces now in a safe and secure manner from the counter-insurgency mission in Afghanistan; and calls for Canada to focus its efforts to assist the people of Afghanistan on a diplomatic solution, and re-double its commitment to reconstruction and development. |
Recorded division — deferred until Monday, April 30, 2007, at 6:30 p.m., pursuant to Order made Thursday, April 26, 2007. |
Tuesday, May 1, 2007 — 4th allotted day. |
Opposition Motions |
May 25, 2006 — Ms. Minna (Beaches—East York) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should move forward on an urgent basis to reform federal pay equity legislation based on the recommendations of the Pay Equity Task Force, and to put in place a pro-active approach to pay equity involving an obligation on employers to take steps to eliminate wage discrimination, specifically by: (a) appointing an impartial facilitator to lead discussions with major stakeholder representatives; and (b) having fully and adequately considered the substance of these discussions, introducing a bill on pay equity before the end of 2006. |
May 30, 2006 — Mr. Bellavance (Richmond—Arthabaska) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should (a) intervene immediately in order to maintain the control measures, which are a main pillar of supply management, by limiting imports of milk protein concentrates; (b) adopt a regulation (or order in council) that would classify all milk protein concentrates, regardless of their protein content, in tariff line 0404, for which a tariff quota has been negotiated; or immediately invoke article XXVIII of the GATT in order to limit imports of milk protein concentrates while immediately beginning negotiations with its trading partners and modifying its tariff schedule. |
May 30, 2006 — Mr. Guimond (Montmorency—Charlevoix—Haute-Côte-Nord) — That, in the opinion of the House, the Department of Human Resources and Social Development should renew, in its entirety, in all regions currently involved, pilot project No. 6, which allows workers in regions with high unemployment to obtain five additional weeks of employment insurance benefits until such time as the government undertakes a comprehensive reform of the employment insurance system that meets workers’ needs. |
June 15, 2006 — Mrs. Redman (Kitchener Centre) — That the trial period of the provisional Standing Orders, adopted on February 18, 2005, be extended until the 61st day of the next session; and that the House express its support for the Chair occupants in enforcing the Standing Orders and the other rules, practices and traditions of the House, especially those designed to maintain decorum and respect for its proceedings. |
October 17, 2006 — Mr. Dosanjh (Vancouver South) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should cause the flag on the Peace Tower to be half-masted in order to recognize each member of the Canadian Forces who loses his or her life in the line of duty. |
February 20, 2007 — Ms. Dhalla (Brampton—Springdale) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government is placing narrow ideology ahead of the well-being of Canadian families by failing to support a sustainable, high quality early learning and child care system across Canada, thereby depriving parents of any meaningful child care choice and reducing transfers to provinces and territories by a billion dollars annually. |
February 20, 2007 — Mr. Wilfert (Richmond Hill) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government is failing to provide Canadians with adequate information about the current mission in Afghanistan, and therefore the House instruct the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development to convene on-going hearings, at least one day per month, at which all relevant Ministers and officials will be required to present themselves to answer detailed questions about the status of that mission. |
April 17, 2007 — Mr. Merasty (Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River) — That this House apologize to the survivors of Indian Residential Schools for the trauma they suffered as a result of policies intended to assimilate First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, causing the loss of aboriginal culture, heritage and language, while also leaving a sad legacy of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. |
April 24, 2007 — Ms. Wasylycia-Leis (Winnipeg North) — That this House call on the government to amend the Bank Act to prohibit banks from making a charge for the electronic transfer of funds through the use of an automated banking machine. |
April 24, 2007 — Mr. Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster) — That the House condemn the government for furthering and implementing the Security and Prosperity Partnership Agenda of North America (SPP), with the United States and Mexico, without a democratic mandate from the people of Canada, Parliamentary oversight, nor consideration of the profound consequences on Canada’s ability to adopt autonomous and sustainable economic social and environmental policies, its existence as a sovereign nation, and that this government, in the interest of transparency, accountability and democracy, take the appropriate steps to ensure that ongoing discussions and decisions are halted until a full legislative review, public debate and vote by Parliament have taken place. |
April 24, 2007 — Mr. Dewar (Ottawa Centre) — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should introduce and support a proposal to reform Canada's electoral system to allow representation in the House of Commons that more accurately reflects voter preferences with a mixed member system of proportional representation. |
