The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Van Loan (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister for Democratic Reform), seconded by Mr. O'Connor (Minister of National Defence), — That Bill C-43, An Act to provide for consultations with electors on their preferences for appointments to the Senate, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.

The Committee recommends that, where a Member’s name is added to the list of members of a committee by this report and the Member’s name was on the list of associate members of that committee, the Member’s name be struck from the list of associate members.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 1) was tabled.


Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. Guarnieri (Mississauga East—Cooksville), seconded by Mr. Valley (Kenora), Bill C-433, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (consecutive sentences), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

By unanimous consent, it was resolved, — That the 46th Report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented earlier today, be concurred in.


By unanimous consent, it was resolved, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, Private Members' Business shall be suspended and C-376, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (impaired driving) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, shall be dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence, and at the time for the beginning of Private Members' Business the House proceed to the adjournment proceedings pursuant to Standing Order 38(1).


Ms. Sgro (York West), seconded by Mr. Valley (Kenora), moved, — That the 13th Report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, presented on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, be concurred in. (Concurrence in Committee Reports No. 31)

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Scheer (Regina—Qu'Appelle), seconded by Mr. Batters (Palliser), — That Bill C-343, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (motor vehicle theft), be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.
