Ways and Means

Pursuant to Order made earlier today, the Order was read for consideration of a Ways and Means motion to amend the Income Tax Act and to amend the Excise Tax Act, the Excise Act 2001 and the Air Travellers Security Charge Act relating to the rate reduction for the GST and the federal component of the HST (Sessional Paper No. 8570-392-3), notice of which was laid upon the Table on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Martin (Winnipeg Centre), seconded by Mr. Marston (Hamilton East—Stoney Creek), Bill C-471, An Act to establish the position and Office of the Credit Ombudsman, who shall be an advocate of the interests of consumers and small businesses in credit matters and who shall investigate and report on the provision, by financial institutions, of consumer and small-business credit on a community basis and on an industry basis, in order to ensure equity in the distribution of credit resources, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
