Presenting Reports from Interparliamentary Delegations

Pursuant to Standing Order 34(1), presented the report of the Canadian delegation of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association respecting its participation at the meeting of the Standing Committee of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region, held in Rovaniemi, Finland, on February 28 and 29, 2008. — Sessional Paper No. 8565-392-51-05.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Brown (Leeds—Grenville), seconded by Mr. Wallace (Burlington), Bill C-542, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (illness of child) and another Act in consequence, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Martin (Sault Ste. Marie), seconded by Mr. Siksay (Burnaby—Douglas), moved, — That the House recognize the harmful effects on working and middle-income Canadians of the growing income gap fostered by this government's unbalanced economic agenda, including its failure to reform employment insurance to ensure that people who lose their jobs during economic downturns are protected and trained, and therefore the House has lost confidence in this government.

Debate arose thereon.
