Government Orders

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Nicholson (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Fantino (Associate Minister of National Defence), — That the amendments made by the Senate to Bill C-10, An Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts, be now read a second time and concurred in.

The debate continued.

Mr. Harris (St. John's East), seconded by Mr. Sandhu (Surrey North), moved the following amendment, — That the motion be amended by deleting all of the words after the word “That” and substituting the following:

“a message be sent to the Senate to acquaint their Honours that the House disagrees with the amendments made by the Senate to Bill C-10, An Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts, because relying on the government to list states which support or engage in terrorism risks unnecessarily politicizing the process of obtaining justice for victims of terrorism.”.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 52, Ms. Davies (Vancouver East) asked leave to move the adjournment of the House for the purpose of discussing a specific and important matter requiring urgent consideration, namely, drug shortages.

The Speaker decided that the matter was proper to be discussed and, pursuant to Standing Order 52(9), directed that it be considered on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment

The Order was read for the consideration at report stage of Bill C-278, An Act respecting a day to increase public awareness about epilepsy, as reported by the Standing Committee on Health with amendments.

Mr. Regan (Halifax West), seconded by Ms. Duncan (Etobicoke North), moved, — That the Bill, as amended, be concurred in at report stage.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill, as amended, was concurred in at report stage.

Pursuant to Standing Order 98(2), Mr. Regan (Halifax West), seconded by Ms. Duncan (Etobicoke North), moved, — That the Bill be now read a third time and do pass.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was read the third time and passed unanimously.
