Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Valcourt (Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development), seconded by Mr. Duncan (Minister of State), Bill C-33, An Act to establish a framework to enable First Nations control of elementary and secondary education and to provide for related funding and to make related amendments to the Indian Act and consequential amendments to other Acts, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

(Pursuant to Standing Order 79(2))

His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to establish a framework to enable First Nations control of elementary and secondary education and to provide for related funding and to make related amendments to the Indian Act and consequential amendments to other Acts”.

Presenting Reports from Interparliamentary Delegations

Mr. Simms (Bonavista—Gander—Grand Falls—Windsor), seconded by Mr. Scarpaleggia (Lac-Saint-Louis), moved, — That Standing Order 78 be amended by adding the following:

"(4) No motion, pursuant to any paragraph of this Standing Order, may be used to allocate a specified number of days or hours for the consideration and disposal of any bill that seeks to amend the Canada Elections Act or the Parliament of Canada Act.";

and that Standing Order 57 be amended by adding the following:

", provided that the resolution or resolutions, clause or clauses, section or sections, preamble or preambles, title or titles, being considered do not pertain to any bill that seeks to amend the Canada Elections Act or the Parliament of Canada Act.".
