Motions

By unanimous consent, it was resolved, — That, given that the alarming rate of suicide in Canada constitutes a national health crisis, the House call on the government to take immediate action, in collaboration with the provinces, to establish a national suicide prevention hotline that consolidates all suicide crisis numbers into one easy to remember three-digit (988) hotline that is accessible to all Canadians.

Mr. May (Cambridge), from the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, presented the fourth report of the committee, "Clearing the jam: addressing the backlog of disability benefit claims at Veterans Affairs Canada". — Sessional Paper No. 8510-432-51.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

Ms. Sahota (Brampton North), from the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented the seventh report of the committee, "Interim Report: Protecting Public Health and Democracy During a Possible Pandemic Election". — Sessional Paper No. 8510-432-52.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. McLean (Calgary Centre), seconded by Mr. Steinley (Regina—Lewvan), Bill C-262, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (capture and utilization or storage of greenhouse gases), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Mr. Maloney (Etobicoke—Lakeshore), seconded by Ms. Hutchings (Long Range Mountains), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should recognize the important contributions that Irish-Canadians have made to building Canada, and to Canadian society in general, and should mark the importance of educating and reflecting upon Irish heritage and culture for future generations by declaring the month of March as Irish Heritage Month. (Private Members' Business M-18)

Debate arose thereon.
