| Your Committee has considered the proposed appointment of Michael Ferguson as Auditor General of Canada and reports its recommendation that he be confirmed by the House of Commons as Canada's 14th Auditor General. | Votre Comité a examiné la question de la nomination de Michael Ferguson comme vérificateur général du Canada et recommande à la Chambre des communes de confirmer la nomination de celui-ci en tant que 14e vérificateur général du Canada. |

| We thank Mr. Michael Ferguson for appearing before the committee to answer our questions about his candidacy for the position of Auditor General of Canada. |

| The Canada Gazette’s notice of vacancy for the position indicated that proficiency in both official languages is an essential qualification for the Auditor General. The candidate informed the committee that he is not proficient in both official languages. Therefore it is the opinion of the Liberal and NDP members of the committee that the candidate did not meet an essential requirement and that a new competition should be held to find a candidate who meets all necessary qualifications. | L’avis d’emploi vacant de la Gazette du Canada indiquait que la maîtrise des deux langues officielles était un critère de compétence essentiel pour le vérificateur général. Le candidat a informé le comité qu’il ne maîtrise pas les deux langues officielles. Donc, les membres libéraux et néo-démocrates du comité sont d’avis que le candidat ne répondait pas à un critère de compétence essentielle et qu’un nouveau concours soit organisé afin de trouver un candidat possédant toutes les qualifications nécessaires. |
