Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mrs. Tremblay (Rimouski -- Témiscouata), seconded by Mr. Bergeron (Verchères), Bill C-288, An Act to revoke the conviction of Louis David Riel, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Dupuy (Minister of Canadian Heritage), seconded by Mr. Gerrard (Secretary of State (Science, Research and Development)), -- That Bill C-53, An Act to establish the Department of Canadian Heritage and to amend and repeal certain other Acts, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.
The debate continued.
PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS
At 5:32 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.
The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration of Bill C-249, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (right to citizenship).
Mrs. Hayes (Port Moody -- Coquitlam), seconded by Mr. Breitkreuz (Yellowhead), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.
Debate arose thereon.
Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the time provided for consideration of Private Members' Business expired and the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.
PROCEEDINGS ON ADJOURNMENT MOTION
At 6:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 38(1), the question ``That this House do now adjourn'' was deemed to have been proposed.
