PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 11:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs of Bill C-309, An Act to amend the Access to Information Act (disclosure of results of public opinion polls).

Mr. Mills (Red Deer), seconded by Mr. Williams (St. Albert), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(l ), the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Axworthy (Minister of Human Resources Development), seconded by Ms. Copps (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment). -- That Bill C-64, An Act respecting employment equity, be now read a third time and do pass.

Questions on Order Paper

Pursuant to Standing Order 39(7), the following question was made an Order of the House for Return:

    Q-146 -- February 15, 1995 -- Mr. Axworthy (Saskatoon -- Clark's Crossing) -- With respect to the government's actions to curb contraband trade in cigarettes in Canada, announced on February 8, 1994 (a) what estimates, if any, were made for (i) increased consumption of cigarettes in all populations; (ii) increased smoking prevalence among Canadian youth; (iii) impact on current and future mortality and morbidity; and, if not, why not? (b) what estimates, if any, of future levels of contraband trade in cigarettes were made of the market share of contraband cigarettes in 1994, 1995, 1996 1997 and what estimate was made of revenue loss due to contraband sales in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 and, if not, why not?
