Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Marceau (Charlesbourg), seconded by Mr. Bigras (Rosemont), Bill C-435, An Act to amend the Bank of Canada Act (withdrawal of the thousand dollar note), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Finance of Bill S-16, An Act to implement an agreement between Canada and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, an agreement between Canada and the Republic of Croatia and a convention between Canada and the Republic of Chile, for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Mr. Rock (Minister of Health) for Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Mr. Mitchell (Secretary of State (Parks)), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:39 p.m., by unanimous consent, the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.
