Tabling of Documents

Pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), Mr. Adams (Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) laid upon the Table, -- Government responses, pursuant to Standing Order 36(8), to the following petitions:

-- Nos. 361-1347, 361-1433 and 361-1653 concerning the Copyright Act. -- Sessional Paper No. 8545-361-81A (revised);

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

-- by Mr. Szabo (Mississauga South), one concerning human rights in Indonesia (No. 361-2330);

Questions on Order Paper

Mr. Adams (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) presented the answers to questions Q-219, Q-220 and Q-223 on the Order Paper.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Ms. McDonough (Halifax), seconded by Mr. Martin (Winnipeg Centre), moved, -- That this House calls on the government to intensify and accelerate efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Kosovo through the involvement of Russia and the United Nations, and to urge NATO not to take actions that expand the conflict and stand in the way of a diplomatic solution.

Debate arose thereon.

Mr. Earle (Halifax West), seconded by Mrs. Desjarlais (Churchill), moved the following amendment, -- That the motion be amended by replacing the words ``to take actions'' with the following:

    ``to impose a naval blockade or take any other actions''

Debate arose thereon.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Ms. McDonough (Halifax), seconded by Mr. Martin (Winnipeg Centre), in relation to the Business of Supply;

And of the amendment of Mr. Earle (Halifax West), seconded by Mrs. Desjarlais (Churchill).

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

Mr. Thompson (New Brunswick Southwest), seconded by Mr. Borotsik (Brandon -- Souris), moved, -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should take all necessary steps to provide a humane and fair resolution for those infected with hepatitis C through the blood supply system, and provide for research, education and support into the identification of other inherited bleeding disorders, in particular von Willebrand's disease. (Private Members' Business M-273)

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.

      The Clerk of Petitions has the honour to report that the petition from the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada, praying for the passage of a private act, filed by Ms. Catterall (Ottawa-West -- Nepean) on Monday, April 26, 1999, meets the requirements of Standing Order 131.

-- by the Examiner of Petitions for Private Bills -- 2nd Report, which was as follows:

      Pursuant to Standing Order 133(2), the Examiner of Petitions for Private Bills has taken into consideration the petition from the the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada, received by the House on Tuesday, April 27, 1999, and has the honour to report that the requirements of the Standing Orders regarding notice have been fully complied with.
