Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Peterson (Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions)) for Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), Bill C-35, An Act to amend the Special Import Measures Act and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Peterson (Secretary of State (International Financial Institutions)) for Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), Bill C-36, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled "An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 24, 1998".

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Riis (Kamloops), seconded by Ms. Vautour (Beauséjour -- Petitcodiac), -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should consider the advisability of giving to the members of the MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion and other Canadians who fought with Spanish Republican forces in the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939, the status of veterans under the federal legislation and making them eligible for veterans pensions and benefits. (Private Members' Business M-75)
