GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mrs. Ablonczy (Calgary -- Nose Hill), seconded by Mr. Kenney (Calgary Southeast), moved, -- That this House calls on the Minister of Finance to increase the Canada Health and Social Transfer by $1.5 billion and forego the $1.5 billion increase to federal grants and contributions in this year's federal budget.

Debate arose thereon.

Mr. Obhrai (Calgary East), seconded by Mr. Duncan (Vancouver Island North), moved the following amendment, -- That the motion be amended by adding after the words "the Minister of Finance to" the following:

    "immediately"

At 6:15 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 81(16), the Speaker interrupted the proceedings.

The question was put on the amendment and, pursuant to Standing Order 45, the recorded division was deferred until Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders.
