Introduction of Private Members' Bills
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Stoffer (Sackville -- Musquodoboit Valley -- Eastern Shore), seconded by Mrs. Desjarlais (Churchill), Bill C-342, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (volunteers), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
First Reading of Senate Public Bills
Pursuant to Standing Order 69(2), on motion of Mr. Godfrey (Don Valley West), seconded by Mr. Jackson (Bruce- Grey-Owen Sound), Bill S-14, An Act respecting Sir John A. Macdonald Day and Sir Wilfrid Laurier Day, was read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
Pursuant to Standing Order 69(2), on motion of Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) for Mr. Tobin (Minister of Industry), seconded by Mr. Kilgour (Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa)), Bill S-17, An Act to amend the Patent Act, was read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Order 73(1), Mr. MacAulay (Solicitor General of Canada) for Mr. Tobin (Minister of Industry), seconded by Mr. Kilgour (Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa)), moved, -- That Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act, be referred forthwith to the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
Debate arose thereon.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on division.
Accordingly, the Bill was referred to the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
The Order was read for the consideration at report stage of Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, as reported by the Standing Committee on Finance without amendment.
