Presenting Reports from Committees

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee requested that the government table a comprehensive response.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills
Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Breitkreuz (Yorkton -- Melville), seconded by Mr. Cummins (Delta -- South Richmond), Bill C-341, An Act to amend the Access to Information Act (Cabinet confidences), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

NOTICES OF MOTIONS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PAPERS
It was ordered, -- That a humble Address be presented to Her Excellency praying that she will cause to be laid before this House copies of all documentation related to the Canada Research Chairs and, in particular, information concerning the number of Chairs that will be awarded to each of the following agencies: Medical Research Council, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. It was ordered, -- That an Order of the House do issue for copies of all documentation related to the Canada Research Chairs initiatives, and in particular, information related to the division of funds to be awarded to the various granting councils involved. (Notice of Motion for the Production of Papers P-2 -- Mr. Pankiw (Saskatoon -- Humboldt))

GOVERNMENT ORDERS
The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage of Bill C-10, An Act respecting the national marine conservation areas of Canada.
Mr. Goodale (Minister of Natural Resources) for Ms. Copps (Minister of Canadian Heritage), seconded by Ms. Caplan (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.
Debate arose thereon.
MOTIONS
By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That if a recorded division is requested Thursday, May 3, 2001, on a motion to refer Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act, to committee before second reading pursuant to Standing Order 73(1), it shall be deemed deferred until the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders on Tuesday, May 8, 2001.
GOVERNMENT ORDERS
The House resumed consideration of the motion of Ms. Copps (Minister of Canadian Heritage), seconded by Ms. Caplan (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), -- That Bill C-10, An Act respecting the national marine conservation areas of Canada, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage.
The debate continued.
MESSAGES FROM THE SENATE
A Message was received from the Senate informing this House that the Senate has passed Bill S-25, An Act to amend the Act of incorporation of the Conference of Mennonites in Canada, to which the concurrence of this House is desired.
Pursuant to Standing Order 135(2), the Bill was deemed to have been read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS
At 5:58 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(7), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.
The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Finance of Bill C-272, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (child adoption expenses).
Mr. Hill (Prince George -- Peace River), seconded by Mr. Manning (Calgary Southwest), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.
Debate arose thereon.
