Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Nault (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), seconded by Mr. Boudria (Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), Bill C-37, An Act to facilitate the implementation of those provisions of first nations' claim settlements in the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan that relate to the creation of reserves or the addition of land to existing reserves, and to make related amendments to the Manitoba Claim Settlements Implementation Act and the Saskatchewan Treaty Land Entitlement Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Ms. McLellan (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Mitchell (Secretary of State (Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario)), -- That Bill C-36, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Official Secrets Act, the Canada Evidence Act, the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) Act and other Acts, and to enact measures respecting the registration of charities in order to combat terrorism, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

The debate continued.

MOTIONS

By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations be authorized to travel to the Lester B. Pearson International Airport (Toronto) on Thursday, October 18, 2001, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.
