Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Pagtakhan (Minister of Veterans Affairs) , seconded by Ms. Whelan (Minister for International Cooperation) , Bill C-50, An Act to amend the statute law in respect of benefits for veterans and the children of deceased veterans, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to amend the statute law in respect of benefits for veterans and the children of deceased veterans”.

Mr. Paquette (Joliette) , seconded by Ms. Picard (Drummond) , moved, — That, in the opinion of this House, in order to ensure tax equity, the government should terminate Canada’s tax convention with Barbados, a tax haven, which enables wealthy Canadian taxpayers and companies to avoid their tax obligations, and should play a leadership role at the international level in activities to eliminate tax havens.
