Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Emerson (Minister of International Trade), seconded by Mr. Day (Minister of Public Safety), Bill C-24, An Act to impose a charge on the export of certain softwood lumber products to the United States and a charge on refunds of certain duty deposits paid to the United States, to authorize certain payments, to amend the Export and Import Permits Act and to amend other Acts as a consequence, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation
(Pursuant to Standing Order 79(2))
Her Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to impose a charge on the export of certain softwood lumber products to the United States and a charge on refunds of certain duty deposits paid to the United States, to authorize certain payments, to amend the Export and Import Permits Act and to amend other Acts as a consequence”.

Vacancies

The Speaker informed the House that a vacancy had occurred in the representation in the House of Commons, for the Electoral District of London North Centre, in the Province of Ontario, by reason of the resignation of Mr. Joe Fontana, and that, pursuant to paragraph 25(1)(b) of the Parliament of Canada Act, today he had addressed his warrant to the Chief Electoral Officer for the issue of a writ for the election of a member to fill the vacancy.

Government Orders
