Private Members' Business

At 11:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security of Bill C-230, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearm — definition of variant).

Mr. Miller (Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound), seconded by Mr. Zimmer (Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

Government Orders

The Order was read for the consideration at report stage of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act and to provide for certain other measures, as reported by the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities without amendment.

Pursuant to Standing Order 56.1, Mr. LeBlanc (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Lamoureux (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), moved, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, and on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, the House continue to sit beyond the ordinary hour of daily adjournment for the purpose of considering Bill C-14, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying).

The question was put on the motion and, more than 25 Members having risen to object, pursuant to Standing Order 56.1(3), the motion was deemed withdrawn.
