At 11:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.
The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights of Bill C-278, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (prohibited sexual acts).
Mr. Hanger (Calgary Northeast), seconded by Mr. Bailey (Souris -- Moose Mountain), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.
Debate arose thereon.
MOTIONS
By unanimous consent, it was ordered, -- That Motion M-285 of Mr. Assadourian (Brampton Centre), which was dropped from the Order Paper on Wednesday, April 25, 2001, be reinstated on the Order Paper at the bottom of the order of precedence for Private Members' Business.

First Reading of Senate Public Bills
Pursuant to Standing Order 69(2), on motion of Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) for Ms. McLellan (Minister of Justice), seconded by Ms. Minna (Minister for International Cooperation), Bill S-4, A First Act to harmonize federal law with the civil law of the Province of Quebec and to amend certain Acts in order to ensure that each language version takes into account the common law and the civil law, was read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.
