Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, May 30, 2022, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

Alexandre Cédric Doucet, Deepak Awasti and Mona Audet made statements and, with Ali Chaisson and Denis Desgagné, answered questions.

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:25 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the committee’s study of Bill C-13, an Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts, the Minister of Canadian Heritage be reinvited to appear.

ORDERED, — That the clerk of the committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a draft budget respecting the committee's proposed travel to Edinburgh (Scotland), Glasgow (Scotland), Inverness (Scotland), Cardiff (Wales), Oswestry (Wales), Belfast (Northern Ireland), London (England), Dublin (Ireland) and Galway (Ireland), in relation to its study of language regimes in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Ireland to inform the management of linguistic minority communities, for consideration by the committee before Friday, October 21, 2022.

At 12:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
