Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the committee resumed its study of closed work permits and temporary foreign workers.

The witness made a statement.

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 3:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:53 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $500, for the study of the subject matter of the Supplementary Estimates (B), 2023-24: Votes 1b, 5b and 10b under Department of Citizenship and Immigration, be adopted.

ORDERED, — That the Chair be instructed not to call a meeting of the committee on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

It was agreed, — That the committee issue a letter to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to urgently call on the Government of Canada to lift the 40,000 quota for the Special Immigration Measure for Afghans so that those who risked their lives and that of their family members, including extended family members, to serve Canada are afforded the opportunity to get to safety in Canada; and, further, that the committee issue a news release on the matter.

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 4:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
