Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of Force Protection.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: "Protection of Our Military Personnel".

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

ORDERED, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on National Defence undertake a study on Canada’s involvement in NATO immediately following the study on Naval readiness. Recognizing the changing security environment in Europe, and recent statements by the United States with respect to NATO, Canada should identify and evaluate its participation in and contribution to NATO. It is proposed that this study should explore Canada’s role in NATO pertaining to: defence and security (including cyber security), the economic impact (including the Canadian defence industry), and the indirect benefits on broader Canadian society; and that the Committee report its findings to the House of Commons.

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study of Canada’s contributions to international peacekeeping; that the study look at past contributions, how Canadian peacekeepers can be useful in current conflicts, as well as detailed analysis of existing and required resources solely dedicated to peacekeeping efforts; and that the Committee report its findings to the House upon completion of the study.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Jody Thomas to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in relation to the order in council appointment as Senior Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence.

At 4:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
