Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 23, 2017, the Committee resumed its study of Canada’s involvement in NATO.

Patrick Finn made a statement and, with Jennifer Hubbard, answered questions.

At 10:14 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:19 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

James Bezan moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister of National Defence to appear before the Committee in order to update Canadians on the current status of Operation IMPACT and elaborate further on his comments regarding the future of Operation IMPACT and the supplying of weapons to the Kurdish Peshmerga; and that a meeting to this effect take place within 30 days from the adoption of this motion; and that this meeting be televised.

Sven Spengemann moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

Motion

James Bezan moved, — That the Committee conduct a study of no less than three meetings, to consider the government’s purchase of used F-18 Hornets as well as spare parts from the Royal Australian Air Force and the process of integrating these aircraft into the Royal Canadian Air Force; that this study be completed and findings of which be reported back to the House within 60 calendar days from the adoption of this motion; and that meetings regarding this study be televised.

On motion of Randall Garrison, it was agreed, — That the motion be referred to the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on National Defence.

At 10:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
