Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the committee proceeded to a briefing by Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine, the Veterans Ombud, to provide the committee with an update and recommendations on the issue of wait times and backlogs faced by disabled veterans in receiving the benefits to which they are entitled and deserve.

The Veterans Ombud made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

Frank Caputo gave notice of the following motion:

That given that Juno Beach is one of the most sacred places in Canadian military history, the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs objects to plans to develop the area immediately adjacent to the Juno Beach Centre, expresses its support for the Save Juno Beach campaign in Canada, calls on the government to provide financial support for the Juno Beach Centre Association in order to protect the integrity of Canada's primary site of Second World War commemoration overseas, and reports this motion to the House.

At 1:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:48 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 2:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
