At 6:43 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 6:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Tom Rosser, Jake Berg and John C. Hamilton made statements and answered questions.
Richard Lehoux moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the closure of the Olymel processing plant in Vallée-Jonction, Québec, to examine the repercussions this closure will have on the pork industry, on the animal welfare, on the food security and on the labor force both foreign and domestic in Québec and in Ontario; that the committee invite to testify representatives from Olymel L.P., Sollio Cooperative Group, Canadian Pork Council, Les Éleveurs de porcs du Québec, Ontario Pork and officials from the Department of Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship; that the committee hold one meeting on this study as soon as possible; and that the committee report its findings to the House.
Debate arose thereon.
By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “and that the committee report its findings to the House” with the words “and that the analysts be instructed to prepare a letter addressed to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food”.
After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.
The motion, as amended, read as follows:
