Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee proceeded to a briefing with the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel on the study of efforts to stabilize food prices.

Michel Bédard made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the documents containing the strategies, business plans, and initiatives taken to date aimed at the stabilization of grocery prices in Canada to be produced pursuant to the order for production of documents of Thursday, October 19, 2023, the documents provided by the grocery chains Loblaw, Metro, Empire, Walmart and Costco be kept confidential and be viewed by the members of the committee under the supervision of a clerk, by appointment, for five days from Monday to Friday during a sitting week; that the documents be available in 14 hard copies, numbered and watermarked; that the documents be kept in a secure location when not in use; that no personal mobile or electronic device be permitted in the room; that members be allowed to be accompanied by one identified staff member when viewing the documents; and that the clerk and analysts be allowed to handle and consult the documents.

At 5:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
