Motion

Blake Richards moved, — Given that:

  1. During a recent Remembrance Day ceremony at Sir Robert Borden High School, the school played an anti-Israel protest song associated with the ongoing war in Gaza instead of playing music associated with the service and sacrifice of Canadian servicemembers; and
  2. The principal of the school defended the choice, complaining that Remembrance Day is too often about “a white guy who has done something related to the military”.

The committee report to the House its opinion that the Principal of Sir Robert Borden High School should be terminated for his actions.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Terry Dowdall, Blake Richards, Fraser Tolmie — 3;

NAYS: Rachel Blaney, Sean Casey, Luc Desilets, Lisa Hepfner, Wilson Miao, Randeep Sarai — 6.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:05 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 12:12 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Kathy Grant, John Belanger and Marvin Bouvier made statements and answered questions.

At 1:07 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
