The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the committee meet, in an informal meeting, in camera, with a delegation of members of the U.S. House of Representatives during the week of October 21, 2024; and that the committee defray the hospitality expenses related to this meeting.

It was agreed, — That the analysts be instructed to write a draft letter to the Chair of the standing senate committee on banking, commerce and the economy, urging the committee to promptly complete the consideration of Bill C-280, An Act to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (deemed trust – perishable fruits and vegetables).

It was agreed, — That the analysts be instructed to write a draft letter to the Chair of the standing senate committee on foreign affairs and international trade, urging the committee to continue and promptly complete the study of Bill C-282, An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act.

At 8:26 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 8:26 a.m., the meeting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motions adopted by the committee on Thursday, February 8, 2024, and on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the committee resumed its study of impact of border carbon adjustments and reciprocity of standards on Canadian agriculture.

Serge Buy, Jasmine Sauvé, Keith Currie and Greg Northey made statements and, with Stéphanie Forcier and Scott Ross, answered questions.

It was agreed, — That Richard Cannings take the Chair after the suspension.

At 9:33 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 9:39 a.m., the meeting resumed.

At 9:39 p.m., Richard Cannings took the Chair.

Kyle Larkin, Troy Sherman, Benoit Legault and Pascal Forest made statements and answered questions.

At 10:36 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
