Minutes of Proceedings
Caroline Desbiens moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee invite Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, along with her officials, for a meeting of two hours, to be held no later than Wednesday, April 13, 2022, to inform the committee about the steps the department has taken on this issue since the spring of 2021 and the steps the Minister plans to take, as well as the time required, to correct the problem, given the unique nature of weir fishing in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, and in Newfoundland and Labrador.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:
YEAS: Mel Arnold, Lisa Marie Barron, Caroline Desbiens, Rick Perkins, Clifford Small, Bob Zimmer — 6;
NAYS: Serge Cormier, Brendan Hanley, Ken Hardie, Mike Kelloway, Robert J. Morrissey — 5.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 12:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 1:03 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.
It was agreed, — That the members of the committee submit to the clerk their recommendations in relation to the study of marine cargo container spills no later than 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
It was agreed, — That the clerk of the committee, in consultation with the Chair, prepare a preliminary submission for travel to Scotland, Norway and Iceland in the fall of 2022, with regard to the committee’s study of pinniped stock management, to be submitted to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee no later than Friday, May 6, 2022.
