Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the committee resumed consideration of the question of privilege related to the Speaker's public participation at an Ontario Liberal Party convention.

Eric Janse made a statement and, with Jeffrey LeBlanc and Michel Bédard, answered questions.

ORDERED, — That the acting clerk of the House provide all relevant documents as requested by Luc Berthold, Peter Julian and Terry Duguid in both official languages as soon as possible.

Pursuant to Standing Order 111.1(1), the committee commenced consideration of the proposed appointment of Eric Janse to the position of Clerk of the House of Commons, referred to the committee on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report to the House that the committee has considered the proposed appointment of Eric Janse as Clerk of the House of Commons and recommends that the House ratify the appointment of Eric Janse to the position of Clerk of the House of Commons.

At 9:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the committee resumed consideration of the question of privilege related to the Speaker's public participation at an Ontario Liberal Party convention.

The Hon. Greg Fergus made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed, — That the Speaker provide the committee with the records regarding the video for whoever he communicated with, all exchanges in both official languages, and the date of the interview that he had with Laura Stone.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That Eric Duncan table letters received in support of the Speaker of the House.

At 11:29 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

Motion

Eric Duncan moved, — That an Order do issue to the Ontario Liberal Party for all copies of emails, memoranda, records of communications (including text messages and instant messaging application messages) or any other documents, which are under the Party's control, concerning the Speaker's tributes to the former Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, provided that these be deposited with the Clerk of the Committee no later than 5 p.m. today.

At 1:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
