Pursuant to the order of reference of Friday, April 29, 2022, the committee commenced consideration of Bill C-233, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Judges Act (violence against an intimate partner).

The Chair calls Clause 1.

Anju Dhillon, Jennifer Kagan-Viater and Philip Viater made statements and, with Pam Damoff, answered questions.

At 1:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Shannon Davis-Ermuth made a statement and, with Melissa Moor, answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Emmanuella Lambropoulos gave notice of the following motion:

That the committee report to the House that:

a. access and availability to reproductive health services, no matter where one lives in Canada, including safe and legal abortion, is a Charter right and is insured under the Canada Health Act; and

b. the decision to have an abortion, made by women, transgender and non-binary individuals, for any reason, is their freedom of choice and theirs alone.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $5,175.00, for the study of Bill C-233, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Judges Act (violence against an intimate partner), be adopted.

At 3:04 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
