Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee commenced its study of subject matter of Main Estimates 2024-25: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Department of the Environment, Votes 1 and 5 under Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Parks Canada Agency, referred to the committee on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Jean-François Tremblay made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Motion

Gérard Deltell moved, — Given the large workload the committee has on the docket, the committee instructs the chair to book five meetings in between Monday, July 8, 2024 and Friday, September 13, 2024, while the House is adjourned, to deal with unfinished business, such as the $8 billion Net Zero Accelerator fund waste and other pressing matters as they emerge.

Debate arose thereon.

Adam van Koeverden moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

Motion

Dan Mazier moved, — Given that,

  • The Liberal government released its internal economic data on the carbon tax, revealing it costs Canadians $30.5 billion and over $1,800 for every household in Canada;
  • This is in addition to the increased costs the carbon tax puts on gas, groceries and home heating;
  • The Liberal government tried to cover-up this information from Canadians; and
  • When the Parliamentary Budget Officer revealed that the Liberal Government had this data they placed him under a gag order and attempted to disparage his reputation.

That the committee report to the House that the environment minister must resign immediately.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, April 11, 2024, the committee resumed its study of profits and emissions reduction efforts in Canada's oil and gas industry.

That the proposed budget in the amount of $2,750, for the study of profits and emissions reduction efforts in Canada's oil and gas industry, be adopted.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee resumed its study of freshwater.
