Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Friday, November 15, 2024, the committee resumed a briefing on Canada's emissions reduction policies.

Jerry V. DeMarco made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Motion

Laurel Collins moved, — Given that:

  1. the Environment Commissioner of Environment and Sustainable Development reported that the government is not on track to meet their 2030 emissions reduction targets; and
  2. the testimony heard by the committee from witnesses in the meetings which took place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and Monday, December 2, 2024, included concern with the government's emission reduction policies and progress.

The committee report to the House of Commons its disappointment regarding the government's slow progress in meeting 2030 emission reduction targets.

Debate arose thereon.

Motion

Adam van Koeverden moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Shafqat Ali, Sophie Chatel, Rhéal Éloi Fortin, Lloyd Longfield, Leah Taylor Roy, Adam van Koeverden — 6;

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
