Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, the committee resumed its study of Canada’s electricity grid and network.

Alex Callahan, James Jenkins and Marc Chapeskie made statements and answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Shannon Stubbs moved, — That the committee resume consideration of the motion moved on September 18, 2024 which read as follows:

That the committee invite the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to appear before the committee, separately, for no less than 2 hours each, within 14 days of the adoption of this motion, in relation to their priorities for the return of Parliament and their mandates.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Earl Dreeshen, Ted Falk, Jeremy Patzer, Shannon Stubbs — 4;

NAYS: Charlie Angus, Julie Dabrusin, Yvonne Jones, Majid Jowhari, Viviane Lapointe, Peter Schiefke, Mario Simard — 7.

Shannon Stubbs moved, — That the committee invite the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to appear before the committee, separately, for no less than 2 hours each, within 15 days of the adoption of this motion, in relation to their priorities for the return of Parliament and their mandates.

Amendment

Julie Dabrusin moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “within 15 days of the adoption of this motion’’ with the words “as soon as reasonably possible”.

That the committee invite the Minister of Natural Resources and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to appear before the committee, separately, for no less than 2 hours each, as soon as reasonably possible, in relation to their priorities for the return of Parliament and their mandates.

It was agreed, — That the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $2000, for the study of Canada's Electricity Grid and Network, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $3500, for the study of Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion, be adopted.

At 12:36 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
